Winter has a way of taking the effect of the "puppy face" to another level.

"There are animals that are going to be cold tonight," said Victoria Galan with Miami-Dade County.

Hundreds of homeless dogs must huddle together for warmth because their cages are outdoors.

"We literally cover the cages and stop the wind from going in," said the director of Animal Services.

That’s why the county is asking for donations. If adopting a pet is out of the question, how about simply handing over an old sweatshirt or blanket?

Miami-Dade Animal Services is hosting a sweater drive -- not for people, but for dogs. Drop-off posts are inside libraries across the county.

"Even if you're not an animal lover, you have to have a little bit of compassion at least to want to make sure these animals are comfortable during these colder days," said Galan.
